Detectors only earn their keep if they are the right type, in the right spots, with live batteries. We install smoke, heat, and carbon monoxide detectors throughout the house, test the ones you have, and replace batteries on a schedule instead of waiting for the 3 a.m. chirp. Placement matters more than most people realize: smoke detectors belong in and outside sleeping areas and on every level, heat detectors make more sense in garages and kitchens where cooking smoke triggers false alarms, and CO detectors need to be near bedrooms and on levels with fuel-burning appliances. Winter is the test

How often should smoke detector batteries be changed?
Once a year is the standard for battery-powered units, and twice-yearly testing is smart. Detectors themselves wear out too; most manufacturers say to replace the whole unit after about ten years, even hardwired ones. When we service a home we log ages and dates so replacements happen on schedule.
Can you install grab bars in a tiled shower?
Yes. Tile installs take the right anchors and, ideally, solid blocking behind the wall; we locate studs or use anchors rated for the load when framing is not where we need it. Done right, the bar holds a falling adult. Done wrong, it pulls out exactly when someone needs it.
What does a garage door safety check include?
